Four Eyes: A Perfect Storm of art and story

Now I don’t know about you but if you have been sleeping on this then its time to wake up and smell the dragon breath! Actually I don’t really blame you, this book takes forever to come out but it is totally worth the wait. Joe Kelly is one of my favorite writers but this book is unlike anything else of his you might have read. Max Fiumara is also doing some incredible work here as well. Seeing these to two blossom in their creative freedom is… well lets just say books like these make me proud to be a Fangirl. Not only do I want to give them my money but it reminds me that this is no childish hobby. It’s about the visceral experience of seeing art and words come together to make something greater then you could of imagined…

I have a friend named Jerry and he is one of my favorite guys ever! For his 26th birthday I gave him a wolverine poster and the first issue of Four Eyes. Mind you the only comic Jerry has ever read was Preacher and I don’t even think he finished it… he is to busy being a Free Spirit working on his garden, going to Haiti to help rebuild it with his own hands or welding awesome bikes and so on… But he fell in love with Four Eyes and he asked how he could get more and I told him look this book takes forever to come out, when the trade comes out I will get it for you. Sometimes I wonder if it will ever happen. Anyways the point of this little anecdote is that Four Eyes is for anyone lucky enough to come across it. Whether you like The Untouchables or Eragon, this book is for you.

Janet Lee

Well the Art can speak for itself. Janet Lee is on to something adding collage and woodcuts to Return of the Dapper Men. I must support her because this is not her day job and it should be! Go Grrl!

Frazetta’s Women

Absolutely amazing. When he lost his ability to write with his right hand he learned to illustrate with his left. He made many peoples lives better, and was a great inspiration to illustrators. His work will never be forgotten. His women are so realistic and beautiful, being a woman myself I can’t help but focus on how empowering they are. Each one is different but they all take the stage.

Yukitopia

Yukito Kishiro authors and draws Manga. His execution is absolutely genius. The scrutinizing that goes into the art would make you go mad. The research that goes into his main story is mind-blowingly  intelligent. Why this man is overlooked by so many does not make sense, but very few things makes sense nowadays…

Battle Angel Alita/ Gunm (Gun Dreams)

BAA is such an epic story that the Author wen’t crazy trying to meet the deadlines. He ended up checking into Rehab and prematurely ending the story in what I consider a NICE ending. BAA Last Order came out several years later continuing the first story before it ended. It is still an ongoing.

A megalopolis “Tiphares” soars in the sky, and the town of
scrap iron “The Scrapyard” extends under that. Ido who is a cyberphysician discovers the head of a cyborg girl in a hibernating state, at the scrapheap exhausted from Tiphares. Before long, the girl named Alita is given a body but only a fragment of her memories remain. As she discovers that she can kick ass, she leads the road of a soldier to the discovery of oneself. It is a beautiful Psychological Sci-Fi Action story of Pivotal proportions. It makes references to ancient literature, science, martial arts, history, even Arthurian mythology. Well researched and annotated for your convenience.

Aqua Knight

Aqua Knight is what he created in Rehab just for fun, no deadlines. It is pretty much the opposite of BAA/BAA Last Order. Where as Alita’s world can be incredibly ugly/grim/insane Lady Ruliya’s world is beautiful, but not without problems. Marmundo is 90 Percent water and Lady Ruliya is destined to become the Greatest Aqua Knight, but her parents are hard to impress. She sets out on an adventure that she hopes is worthy of her parents glory. This is light-hearted, fun and only three issues… which kinda sucks because Marmundo is amazing.

Must Read: Brave and the Bold #33

Ladies Night!

This is awesome! I don’t want to say to much about it but suffice to say that this was a good week for comics and this was the best of the best. Its a one shot done and done story for anyone who likes comics, unless your one of those marvel-heads that hates anything DC.
